Progressive steps goal

I've been using this great app for a couple of weeks and found one problem.
I set a progressive steps goal of 1000 steps.
I thought this would give me a notification every 1000 steps, as suggested by the description: "Get a steps goal notification at each intermediate goal (for example every 1000 steps)." I have bluetooth on and the Mi Band (2) is in range.
However, I only get a notification at 1000 steps and when I reach my 5000 steps daily goal. Nothing at 2000, 3000 or 4000.
Is this working as designed or am I doing something wrong?
